In an Instagram post on December 15, the Dancing With the Stars judge describes the transition from living their onstage dreams to facing a sudden nightmare, expressing uncertainty and fear during that period. However, he now conveys hope and relief, sharing an update on Hayley’s progress.
Accompanied by a video of the 29-year-old wearing a headpiece, sherpa jacket, sweatpants, and Ugg boots, the couple is seen walking arm-in-arm near the Washington Monument in the U.S. capital.
Derek notes in the caption that Hayley is doing well, and her recovery has been nothing short of a miracle. He mentions that she still has a way to go, with another surgery planned in a few weeks to insert a skull implant, aiming to replace the piece removed during the craniectomy. The second procedure’s goal is to restore the natural shape of the skull and safeguard her brain from injury, according to Derek.
